Mars, 2022-2023 Opposition

December 29, 2022.  I braved the cold to take a set of videos of Mars last night. The sky was clear, and seeing was about average for NJ. The final image came out better than I expected. Mars presents the prime meridian tonight, passing through Sinus Meridiani.  Syrtis Major is near the eastern limb with Hellas to its north.  One of the old "canals" from the classical era of Mars observation, Deuteronilus, was visible, marking the boundary between the cratered plateau of Arabia/Eden and the northern abyssal plane.  I also made an animated GIF with the 10 images I obtained, each the best 10% of 11408 frames of the video.
